Julio Cortazar was born in Bruselas to Argentinean parents in 1914. In 1918, they moved to Argentina, and there he went to school and became a teacher and professor. He was a rural teacher for five years, collaborating with many publications at that time. In 1951, he traveled to France, as a translator for UNESCO. And traveled to Cuba in 1962, a decisive experience in his life because of the political consciousness he gained. In 1970, he went to Chile, and was present when Allende became president. He then returned to Paris, where he has written most of his novels, including Hopscotch, which is a classic of Spanish literature. ––Liliana Espondaburu
