Said Salah Ahmed is a poet and playwright in the Somali community in Minneapolis.
The poems tells the story of two lovers who, at the moment they are to consummate their marriage, are torn apart by an explosion. Due to the explosion, each lover is forced to flee into a different direction. Some time later, the woman writes him a letter, forwarded to the Red Cross Missing Person's program, in hopes of finding him. In the letter, she discusses three things: first, the difficulties they have suffered; second, solutions to these difficulties; and third, her hopes for their reunion, and many like them. The poem serves as a symbolic representation of the civil war in Somalia. ––Said Salah Ahmed
